Mandarin Oriental Paris

The two-floored Royal Mandarin Suite

Mandarin Oriental Paris, the first French outpost of this luxury Asian hotel brand, has just celebrated its first birthday. Situated on the luxury shopping destination of the rue Saint-Honoré in the first arrondissement right in the centre of Paris, the listed 1930s building is flanked by the fine jewellery heaven of Place Vendome on one side, and the grandeur of the Louvre and the Tuilerie Gardens on the other.

The lobby centred around a landscaped garden

The eight-storey palace built around a central garden houses 138 spacious rooms and suites, each combining the refined luxury of the East, with the unparalleled elegance of Paris. The magnificent (and immense) Royale Mandarin suite is spread over two floors, and includes a kitchen and its own private roof terrace so that you can entertain in style - and the bathroom has a breathtaking view of the Eiffel Tower so you can admire the twinkling Parisian icon whilst soaking in the tub, and that's got to be pure luxury by anyone's standards.

Star chef Thierry Marx - a French chef fascinated by Asian cuisine - has two restaurants at the hotel, both designed by architects Patrick Jouin and Sanjit Manku: the gourmet Sur Mésure par Thierry Marx, an intimate all-white Michelin-starred restaurant for just 42 lucky diners, and the Camélia, which is more affordable and accessible (but equally chic and delicious, as you would expect) which looks onto the hotel's beautiful camellia garden.  There is also a space-age looking bar, Le Bar 8, which has outdoor seating in the garden when the weather permits.

The vast spa - which covers over 900m2, spread over two floors - includes a zen-like indoor swimming pool surrounded by cocoon-esque alcoves to chill in, and seven spa suites, including three double suites for couples who wish to indulge in a bit of joint pampering. Treatments include the Jet Leg Comforter massage to coax travel-weary bodies in to the right time zone or the extravagant half day package featuring, amongst other delights, a Guerlain facial.

We wish the Mandarin Oriental Paris many happy returns!

  2. The Royale Mandarin Suite sounds dreamy. I guess it would be nice to stay there for at least one night, indulge yourself with such luxury and enjoy the spectacular view of Eiffel Tower.
