Fête de la Musique

This Thursday 21st June in Paris it's La Fête de la Musique, an annual event which sees amateur and professional musicians alike hold free concerts at various venues throughout the capital. The music day - always held on the summer solstice - originated in France in 1982, launched by the French ministry of culture, and now sees all kinds of bands, orchestras and musicians perform not just in France, but in over 100 countries in Europe and worldwide.
Some performances are god damn awful, others are stunning, most are great fun. Our top pick is Le Bal Blanc organised by the Creators Project set amongst Daniel Buren's colourful installation Excentrique(s) at Le Grand Palais, to which revellers are invited to come dressed in white to dance to Jamie XX, Fourtet and Caribou (NB the event is free, but you need a ticket to gain entry - see the Creators Project website for more info).
