Breizh Cafe

You don't need Shrove Tuesday as an excuse to wolf down a crêpe in Paris, especially if you're planning on indulging in authentic Breton galettes eaten in probably the best crêperie ever, Breizh Café, winner of Le Fooding's "Fooding d'Honneur" award for 2010. With three branches worldwide, - one in the Breton motherland at Cancale, one in Tokyo and the newest chalet-like outpost in the Marais - Breizh has a reputation as the place to get your pancake on. The extensive menu features classics and house specials in both savoury galette form (made with buckwheat) and ordinary sweet form, all washed down with the obligatory cider. You can sample the variations on the complète theme (egg, ham, cheese), go for a daily special such as scallops, leeks and cream (depending on the season of course) or do a faux-lighter-option with goats' cheese and salad. You can also knock back cancale oysters when in season. Just make sure you leave room for pudding - we could only muster crepes with caramel au beurre salé on our visit but the mini banana, caramel and vanilla ice cream extravaganza sure was tempting.

  1. Love this place, I love nearby. Well lived. It's practically impossible to find crepes au sarrasin here in DC :(

  2. someone will probably kick me out of Paris for this, but I'm not much of a crêpe fan. But, I think it's because I always end up getting pretty middle-of-the-road crêpes with industrial tasteless ham and cheese on them. So, maybe I should give it another go at a good place like this. How was the organic cider?

  3. Nicki, FrenchTwist - thanks for stopping by and posting comments!

Forest - try these because they really are good. If you still aren't convinced, *then* you can conclude that you don't like pancakes! The cider was delicious!!

  4. How do I not know about this place?! I'll be trying this one out. I never liked cider until we went to a little place in Normandy and they sold the family-made type. So delicious, fresh and fragrant.
