Beaubien

New multibrand menswear shop Beaubien is bringing high quality, independent casual brands from all over the world to its charming Northern Marais boutique. The store's founder, Julien Bouzereau - formerly part of the Parisian casual/cool clothes label par excellence, Kitsuné -  has chosen a tight selection of luxury streetwear threads, with an attention to detail and fabric (think cashmere, chambray, soft fleecy cotton), from brands from France, Denmark, Japan and the US - some of which aren't stocked anywhere else in Paris but here. Featured in the minimal shop (complete with vintage 50s furniture) are basics such as sweaters, knitwear, trousers, parkas, sneakers and t-shirts from hard-to-find labels such as Peter Jensen, Battenwear, Dana Lee and Libertine-Libertine, as well as on point accessories such as Timex watches and backpacks from Bag'n'noun, to dress the stylish but subtle modern man from head to toe.

Fragments Paris - Marais

After opening Blackmarket Cafe in Paris' 18th arrondissement just over a year ago, and closing its doors definitively this summer, charming young Frenchman Youssef Li has now opened his brand spanking new coffee joint, Fragments, in the Marais. Blackmarket was a much loved addition to the Rue Ramey on the slopes of Montmartre, and its trusty regulars will be relieved to hear that the very same, super snazzy Mirage coffee machine has now found a new home at Fragments, in this cosy, exposed-brickwork and beamed-ceiling space, just behind the Boulevard Beaumarchais. Having just had its soft opening last weekend, there are still many yet-to-be-completed surprises in store for the new cafe: an architect is working on the interior, and menus are being devised for lunchtime bentos. The cafe, as you would expect, will be a centre for serious coffees, with blends coming from Coutume Cafe in Paris, as well as farther afield like the Coffee Collective in Denmark, served in incarnations of espresso, noisette, cappuccino or filter coffee. Fragments is open in the daytime only, from 8.30 until 4pm, seven days a week. We wish it every success!

Le Mary Celeste

We can't get enough of the Northern Marais right now, and the arrival of new cocktail and oyster bar Le Mary Celeste is only serving to increase our obsession. The talented team behind much lauded cocktail-and-tapas joint Candelaria and Pigalle bar Glass opened Mary Celeste, their third bar in the capital, earlier in 2013. Breaking the mould from the hidden away, dark and sultry, speakeasy style bars that have proved to be such a hit in Paris, Le Mary Celeste is a bright and breezy corner space, with large windows, exposed brickwork and a vast central bar. On the menu are the kind of expertly mixed cocktails you'd expect from this team (including the Rain Dog which mixes their favourite tipple, the bitter Italian Amaro, with bourbon, mint and lemon), Brooklyn lager on tap, and a selection of wines by the glass and the bottle. Also on offer are oysters (and an oyster happy hour from 5pm-7pm when they're only €1 a pop), bar snacks such as kimchi and small plates to share from Weds-Sun. Le Mary Celeste also shares its sibling bars' eclectic programme, already hosting events such as a pop-up juice shop with Bob's Cold Press last month and Jack's Jumble Sale. Stay tuned to their facebook for more info on upcoming events.

The Broken Arm

The Northern Marais continues to affirm its status as Paris' hippest neighbourhood with the arrival of The Broken Arm - a brand new concept store featuring a bright and breezy cafe and a cutting edge boutique stocking a carefully curated selection of fashion, accessories and books. Founded by Anaïs Lafarge, Guillaume Steinmetz and Romain Juste - who are part of the De Jeunes Gens Modernes team, an online fashion magazine - The Broken Arm combines a place to drink coffee, eat lunch and hangout with a place to shop the latest trends. On the menu in the light-filled corner cafe space are light dishes including sandwiches, soups and salads of the day (between €5.50 and €8.50) - with a colorful and tasty smoked haddock, lime cream cheese and alfalfa bagel on our visit - and simple but flavoursome dishes such as sardines with bread and piment d'espelette butter. Also on offer are high quality coffee, yummy cakes and freshly squeezed juice. In the two-level, multi-brand shop, there is a stylish edit of women's and men's ready-to-wear from big guns such as Kenzo, Raf Simon, Carven and Philip Lim, but also from newcomers like the French designer Jacquemus. Shoes, jewellery and even leather mouse mats and retro stationary are also on sale, as is a concise selection of magazines and books. Whether you go in for a quick pitstop of for full on retail indulgence, The Broken Arm is sure to inspire. A new favourite.

Bob's Cold Press at Le Mary Celeste

New York creatives The Sporting Project have come to Paris with a special fashion week pop-up juice bar in new Northern Marais hotspot Le Mary Celeste. Jenny Capano and Tara Gilson, the talented ladies behind The Sporting Project, are based in New York but have a love of Paris and plan to unite the two cities via their dynamic events - including this fashion week pop-up juice bar in the northern Marais. In collaboration with Marc Grossman of Bob's Juice Bar in Paris, the girls have created Bob's Cold Press juices, made from 100% organic and non-pasturised ingredients, made - as their name implies - by cold pressing the ingredients, which helps to preserve their nutritive qualities. There are three fresh vitamin-packed flavours to choose from: Green, Citrus or Roots, all for €8 a pop. The rich red Roots features beetroot, carrot, apple and ginger and packs a nice punch whilst being smooth and sweet. Also featuring at the pop-up - and continuing on the fresh, natural theme - are beautiful blooms and carefully composed bouquets from Brooklyn-based florist, Fox Fodder Farm. The pop-up will be on until 6th March as a taster before Bob's Cold Press opens up at its permanent location (10 passage Rochebrune, 75011) on 12th March. So get down to Mary Celeste and get your juice on - it's just what the doctor ordered to get through this last cold snap before spring arrives...

Café Pinson

The Northern Marais continues its reign as Paris' hipster hub with the arrival of stylish veggie cafe Pinson. Just opposite Nanashi, and just around the corner from Rose Bakery, this new arrival brings another trendy, healthy and laid-back eating option to the happening part of the Marais neighbourhood. In the space which was formerly quiche haven Tartes Kluger, interior designer Dorothée Meilichzon has created a light, bright and breezy atmosphere with geometric fabrics, bare brick walls and very Parisian white panelling, for the 100% organic and vegetarian cuisine. The daytime cafe has a seasonal, daily-changing menu of mostly vegan dishes, made without dairy and without gluten, such as kale, lentil and tofu salad, or beetroot and alfalfa tart, available in a fixed menu including a starter, main course and dessert for €17. Vitamin-packed fresh juices are made to order and cafe from Coutume is also on the menu for those needing even more of a boost. Brunch on Sundays (reserve in advance for brunch; otherwise without reservation).
