Rue Charles-Francois Dupuis in the Northern Marais (or NoMa as the cool set are trying to dub it) is fast becoming a street to watch. First to set up shop here was hip hair salon Messieurs-Dames, founded by the effervescent Sebastien (former director at Toni &Guy, rue Tiquetonne, who also worked his coiffure-magic in New York) in late 2009. By his side is the super-stylish kick-ass colourist and hair-stylist Yumi. Along with Colette, Messieurs-Dames is one of the few places in Paris to stock the cult hair care line Bumble&Bumble. The interior design of the salon is suitably edgy, with vintage chests serving as display cases and contemporary art exhibitions providing the decoration. The team are really friendly and take the time to talk to you to find your perfect cut (unlike some big name salons I could mention). Not only that, but they create styles for real life that are easy to maintain and that grow out with out losing their shape. Definitely our favourite hairdressers in Paris.

Hey there. So glad to discover your blog. My husband and I will be in Paris for the months of August and September. Staying in the Marais. I was wondering (amongst other things) what the average price of a haircut would cost?
ReplyDeleteHey Kat - glad you like the blog! A cut with Seb is €63, a cut with Yumi is €47. They both speak English, too. I would call ahead for an appointment as I'm not sure if they are closing at all over August (a lot of places shut up shop in Paris in August). If you have any more questions, shoot me an email - would be glad to help (see contacts page for email address).

I hear that lots of places are closed in August. We'll be sure to investigate properly beforehand. Thanks for your help and I'll be checking your blog regularly for insider info!
ReplyDeleteHey Kat, Thanks for your post. I checked with Messieurs Dames and they are closing from 14th - 21st August. For the rest, I would recommend downloading the go go guide to Paris (which I happen to edit, for the sake of full disclosure) which flags up summer opening times of all places listed - download your copy here http://www.gogoparis.com/paris-guide/

You're a star! I haven't had a haircut for months (when I was in the US) because I'm totally over my old salon (they couldn't seem to figure out how to cut my hair once I went from really long to shorter) and can't find a good new one here. thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteA cut is just 63e?! What a great price. I may have to give them a try....PS. I just stocked up on B&B here in the States! Love knowing I can find it in Paris, too.
ReplyDeleteGood to know. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI would love to stop in at this hair salon! I called them yesterday but no one picked up, do you know if they are on vacation again for August?
Thanks,
Alice
Hi Alice,
DeleteThanks for you comment. As far as I'm aware, there summer closure was 10th-17th August, so they should be open again now. Try calling again +33 1 42 71 29 60. Hope you get through - let me know!

Hi there -- just a comment to say thanks so much for posting this. I know it's from a few years ago, but it's still helpful to the newly-initiated in Paris! I visited Messieurs-Dames yesterday after some google sleuthing (which led me to this helpful info). WOW. Yumi is fantastic! It was even fun just to watch her snip 8 inches or so off my hair. I would give her free reign to do whatever she wanted -- she's that good. I was so happy to find a place that does dry cutting, too (an impossible task back home). Yumi spoke English with me since my French is still pretty unintelligible, which was very kind. Anyway, I'm so pleased -- thanks for the tip!
